ANKARA
Turkey's main aid agency provided humanitarian assistance to 40 families that had been affected by floods in Nangarhar province in Afghanistan it was reported on Friday.
Officials of Nangarhar said that they were grateful to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, TIKA, for the aid provided to disaster victims. They also said that Turkey had been the first country to help victims of the floods and avalanches.
Mohammad Naim, a disaster victim who received one of the aid packages, said, his house had been damaged by floods and that he lived in harsh conditions. He said the aid given by Turkey would reduce difficulties.
The aid packages contain food and humanitarian aid, according to TIKA.
At least 220 people died and 100 injured during heavy rainfalls and in avalanches triggered by snowfall late February in Afghanistan.
