ROTTERDAM (AA) - In the Netherlands, Turkish aid associations also provide support to the Dutch efforts to struggle against poverty, escalating day by day in parallel with the European economic crisis.
Dealing with humanitarian efforts in the Netherlands, Meram Friends Association and Cooperating Muslim Aid Organizations (SMHO) donated the food parcels they prepared in the holy month of Ramadan to the Dutch Food Aid Banks.
Head of the Meram Friends Association Erdogan Yuce, as he delivered the food parcels to the Food Aid Banks, stated that they are always ready to promote the anti-poverty efforts in the Netherlands, which has become a major problem in the Dutch country.
He stressed that they decided to provide henceforward regular aid to poor people considering their needs.
"We cannot remain indifferent to this social problem, so we took action and launched the aid campaign. Our aid will not be limited with the support we have recently provided. We will extend the scope of our aid to the other parts the country, not just Rotterdam and Amsterdam," he added.
Expressing gratitude for the support of the Muslim organizations, a Food Aid Bank official Fred de Veld said they had difficulty in answering all the aid demands, highlighting the increasing number of the applications for aid, almost 150 new appeals a week.
He argued that the politicians must more closely deal with the problem of poverty as more and more people in the country fail to meet even their basic needs and pay their debts.
A group of mosques linked to the Dutch Religious Foundation initiated a similar campaign, within which foodstuffs are collected at 19 mosques and transferred to the Food Aid Banks.
