Turkish Consul General in Jerusalem Sakir Ozkan Torunlar visited Gaza after going through the Beit Hanoun gate.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Torunlar said that he visited Gaza in order to provide scholarships to 29 Palestinian students who will arrive in Turkey for their studies.
"I visit Gaza from time to time in order to observe the works of Turkish institutions and Turkish nationals," Torunlar stated.
"As our Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said, Gaza is like an open air prison. Everyone responsible for the current situation in Gaza should be ashamed of themselves," Torunlar stressed.
"I do hope that Gaza lives in full freedom. Every time I return from Gaza, a piece of my heart remains there," Torunlar underlined.
Many Turkish organizations including the Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TIKA), Turkish Red Crescent Aid Society (Kizilay), Humanitarian Aid Foundation (IHH), and Yardimeli provide assistance to the residents of Gaza.
On the other hand, Turkey provides scholarships to dozens of Palestinian students every year.
