TURPAN/URUMQI
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan visited Turpan near Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China, on Saturday.
Babacan is in Urumqi to attend the opening of the 2nd China-Eurasia Expo on Sunday. He will also meet Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and return to Turkey the same day.
Babacan visited underground water canals which were built 2,000 years ago in Turpan, and was briefed about the history of the region.
He also visited Gaochang ancient city and Urumqi museum.
Babacan will deliver a speech at China-Eurasia Expo.
