ANKARA
Turkish President Abdullah Gul stated Tuesday that everybody should give effort not to see one more life lost, concerning the recent incidents in Egypt.
Speaking in a joint press conference after having met Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic, Gul said "Egypt tasted democracy once and people entered a multiparty system after a long authoritarian regime."
Gul stated that an untenable pain was lived and said to stop the course of events, everybody should feel that pain and get into a rally.
"The thing to be made is to provide elections to choose the representatives of the people in free will as soon as possible without excluding anyone and to end the bloodshed in Egypt," Gul said and added the photos they see, the incidents they follow were not acceptable.
Upon a question on Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu's approach on the Egyptian incidents, Gul said Islamic world entered a division while the Egyptian incidents went on, expressing his sadness about the issue.
It was important to carry Egypt out from that chaos, Gul underlined and said the first step to be taken now is to end bloodshed in Egypt.
-Turkey, Slovakia have stable economies-
Turkish President Abdullah Gul stressed on Tuesday that the economic and political stability in Turkey and Slovakia were sound while so many countries were experiencing economic crisis.
Speaking in a joint press conference after having met Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic, Gul said, "The two countries have strong governments, strong economies, and banking sectors."
Gul also pointed out to Slovakia's support to Turkey's EU membership, saying that they also discussed the energy issues and regional issues especially about the Balkans.
"We have also shared the opinions about Middle East," said Gul.
- Visa exemption for Slovakian citizens penned by Gul-
President Gul said that the decision of visa exemption by Turkish government reached him today, and he has penned the decision and sent to the official gazette to be promulgated.
"Slovakian citizens will have visa exemption in Turkey. We hope that Slovakian government will take the necessary step for visa exexmption for Turkish citizens especially Turkish businessmen, sportsmen, and students," said Gul.
-Slovakia supports Turkey's EU bid-
Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic said on Tuesday they have always supported Turkey's EU membership, calling on EU member states not to lay down new conditions for Turkey.
Speaking in a joint press conference following his meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Gasparovic said Turkey is an important partner both economically and politically for Slovakia as well as having regional and global significance.
Gasparovic said his meeting with Turkish President Gul would also encourage business world adding although trade volume between the two countries has exceeded €1 million, "these figures were not that ambitious."
He said Slovakia also wants to improve relations in the fields of education and research.
