Turkish dailies on Tuesday cover the readmission agreement Turkey inked with the EU, the pair offs Galatasaray v Chelsea FC and Trabzonspor v Juventus in UEFA draws and the resignation of lawmaker Hakan Sukur from AK Party.
- Historic readmission agreement with the EU -
Turkey and the EU signed Monday a readmission agreement in exchange for launching talks on visa liberalization for Turkish citizens, which necessitates the processing of illegal immigrants who enter the EU through Turkey. In return, talks will be launched on visa liberalization to allow Turkish citizens to travel to EU countries without a visa within three and a half years at the latest.
Daily AKSAM headlines "Schengen visa for democracy," saying the major obstacle for Turkey on its way towards EU accession was lifted thanks to the long-waited, almost for 33 years, signing.
Quoting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as he showed the card where the opening dates of the chapters with the EU was noted, daily VATAN writes "EU process in my pocket," in his remarks aftermath the signing ceremony of the readmission agreement that will clear the way for "EU without visa" for Turkish citizens.
Daily SABAH publishes "Turkey is no longer a country that people escape from, but one which people return to describing the visa requirement was imposed by the September 12 junta regime in Turkey to prevent people from leaving the country.
Daily HABERTURK says "First step towards visa-free EU" and cited Erdogan's words "December 16: a milestone" adding that the agreement requires Ankara to take back the illegal immigrants who enter the EU through Turkey.
- Turkish clubs to face Chelsea and Juventus -
"Twist of fate," titles daily STAR, as Galatasaray's centre-forward player Didier Drogba will face his former club Chelsea, upon which Drogba said it would be fantastic to play against his former team and director.
Pointing out that Galatasaray's pair off with Chelsea will give the "Chelsea legend" Drogba the chance to play two home games, one in Istanbul and thoe other in Chelsea, daily HABERTURK publishes "Both games at his home" and cited his Instagram post "I'm the luckiest," to which Chelsea responded on its official website as "See you Drogba."
Daily SABAH writes "Nightmare for Juventus" as the Italian club pairs off with Trabzonspor in UEFA Europa League, again a Turkish club, after being knocked out of the Champions League by the Lions in the remarkable game that was postponed on its first day because of heavy snowfall in Istanbul's TT Arena Stadium, referring to the remarks of the sportive director of Juventus "I hope it won't snow in Trabzon, too."
- AK Party Deputy Hakan Sukur's resignation from his party -
Hakan Sukur, the former Galatasaray captain and a lawmaker of the ruling Justice and Develeopment (AK) Party from Istanbul province, marked Monday evening a snap and suprising resignation form his party, amid the ongoing row over the closure of dershanes (the private after-school tutoring centers), a plan harshly objected by Gulen movement that Sukur has close ties with.
Quoting Hakan Sukur as he asserted that the closure is a disloyalty against Gulen movement, daily MILLIYET writes "Hakan Sukur resigns from AK Party" and gives the written statement of Sukur where he says "I'm regretfully leaving AK Party that I previously joined with great expectations."
"Hakan Sukur resigns" titles daily BUGUN and claimed the main reason behind his resignation is the government's plans for the closure of dershanes and the alleged "tagging" of the members of Gulen group by the government.
