Turkish Dailies on Friday, November 22, cover the ongoing debates on plans to close prep schools or "dershane" (private tuition centers which provide supplementary education), the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party’s referral of their MP of Kutahya constituency Idris Bal to the party’s joint disciplinary board, and the release of a Turkish Greenpeace activist on bail.
Dailies discussed plans to close prep schools or "dershane" in conjunctions with the alleged rift between the government and the Gulen movement. Daily VATAN quoted Erdogan on its front page by headlining “The state to recruit teachers.” The daily quoted PM Erdogan as saying that he has not talked to Fethullah Gulen and “We ask them to establish private schools and the teachers recruited by the prep schools will be recruited by the state without any exam.”
Daily ZAMAN, which takes a strict stance against the closure plan, dedicated the entire front page to the issue and criticized the case with reference to different figures in the education sector. Headlining the interview with the founder of Final Prep Schools, the daily wrote, “I have 236 prep schools and none of them is appropriate to be converted into private schools.”
Daily CUMHURIYET also gave a place on its front page with the “Prep-School Earthquake” headline, addressing the reference of AK Party MP Idris Bal to the party’s disciplinary board. It claimed there is a connection between the two cases as Bal was critical regarding prep schools, as well as the Kurdish issue and Gezi protests.
STAR, quoted PM Erdogan as saying that the government will give incentives to the prep schools converted into private schools. The daily also discussed the competitions among prep schools and the scandals stemming from these competitions.
Daily YENI SAFAK quoted Erdogan as saying, “They want to slap the government.” Erdogan said the government had previously been slammed with the allegations of trying to support the jamaat (or Gulen Movement) schools, but now unfortunately our brothers in jamaat want to slam us, wrote the daily. Daily TARAF also captioned the same words of Erdogan on its front page.
Daily TURKIYE headlined the prep school case by writing “2,500 TL for each student,” stating that the government is to pay this amount to the private schools converted from prep schools for eachregistered student.

Daily BUGUN headlined the words of Bal saying, “I am expelled because I defend the prep schools.” Daily ZAMAN also had a similar tone, claiming he was referred due to his opposition to the prep school issue.
Daily YENI SAFAK headlined the referral of Idris Bal by writing that he was referred to the disciplinary board due to “his attitude against the policies of his party like that of an opposition MP.” The daily said he was at odds with the party on many issues, such as the party’s polices toward the coup in Egypt, Gezi protests and Kurdish issue.

Daily VATAN wrote “Freedom 123,000 TL,” stating that Akhan was freed on bail amounting to 123,000 TL , which will be paid by Greenpeace on Friday.
Daily STAR captioned the case by writing “Gesture with Gizem,” stating that Russia had made a diplomatic gesture to Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan prior to his visit to Russia. The daily also wrote that Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu had written a letter to his Russian counterpart Lavrov concerning the case.
Daily POSTA and MILLIYET also referred to the case on their front pages by writing that Gizem was freed on bail of 120,000 TL.
