DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
Two terrorists have been killed and 12 suspects have been detained in multiple anti-terrorist operations in southeastern Diyarbakir province, the regional governor's office said in a statement Tuesday.
A terrorist was killed in clashes during an operation carried out by the local gendarmerie forces in Hazro town Saturday, while another was killed Sunday in the central Sur district, the statement said.
The operations were carried out to "neutralize" terrorist group members, destroy their shelters and storage areas, it said.
The gendarmes also confiscated eight rifles, two guns and five hand grenades, along with a large cache of ammunition, and documents, it added.
"Anti-terrorist operations will continue in a steadfast manner in order to ensure that local citizens live in peace and security," it concluded.
Since July, official figures suggest more than 180 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq, including airstrikes.
