ANKARA
Turkish football clubs Eskisehirspor and Sivasspor have lost their appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over a UEFA ruling that kicked them out of the European competitions for the 2014/15 season.
On May 21,the Union of European Football Associations, UEFA, had sent the two clubs to its disciplinary committee as part of an investigation into the 2010-11 Turkish Spor Toto Super League corruption and match-fixing scandal.
The UEFA Appeals Body ruled that Eskisehirspor and Sivasspor were ineligible to participate in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League, citing the UEFA regulation that "a club must not have been directly and/or indirectly involved in any activity aimed at arranging or influencing the outcome of a match at national or international level."
The Court of Arbitration for Sport, or CAS, rejected both clubs' appeals on Monday, which means the last season's fifth place holder Sivasspor and domestic cup finalist Eskisehirspor will be out of European club competitions for at least one year.
