LEFKOSA, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
The water supply project for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is expected to be ready for operation on October 29, Turkish Forestry and Water Affairs Minister Veysel Eroglu said on Friday.
Addressing a ceremony in the TRNC capital Lefkosa, Eroglu said that the project included 80-kilometer long pipes in total and if the distance from the dams was considered, the total would be 107 kilometers.
Around 75 million cubic meters of water would be sent to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from a dam in southern Turkey via a pipeline.
"The 75 million cubic meters of water will satisfy the drinking water requirements of Cyprus until 2050; half of the 75 million cubic meters of water will be used for drinking, while the rest will be for irrigation," he added.
According to the minister, the project, which included a water treatment plant and water tanks, would cost 1.6 billion Turkish liras ($576.3 million).
