LONDON
An exhibition showcasing the life of Rauf Denktas, the founding president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), opened on Saturday at the Yunus Emre Institute in London.
The exhibit, entitled Denktas in London, features photos, quotes, and memorabilia detailing the Turkish Cypriot statesman's life and the history of Cyprus.
The show’s opening ceremony was attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertas, TRNC representative in London Cimen Keskin, Yunus Emre London Director Mehmet Karakus, and Mine and Cem Kar, who curated the exhibit.
Ertas described the exhibition as “not only the story of a life but the story of a cause,” highlighting Denktas’s tireless dedication to the Turkish Cypriot people.
The exhibit, which features 250 rare photos from Denktas's personal archive, runs through Nov. 30, and is open to visitors 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
The Yunus Emre Institute is a global non-profit organization, named after renowned 14th-century poet Yunus Emre, which seeks to promote Turkish language and culture around the world.
