ATHENS

Greece has decided to inspect around 64,000 buildings for earthquake risk.

The decision was taken at a recent meeting led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, daily Kathimerini said in a report.

Priority will be given to 30,000 sites including public squares, hospitals and schools, the report added.

The Civil Protection Ministry is soon expected to come out with a concrete plan as a legal formula is being sought by competent authorities to make building control mandatory, it added.

Moreover, the Earthquake Planning and Protection Agency (OASP), will update the country’s seismic risk map, which was updated the last time after the quake in 1999.
