DIYALA, Iraq
At least 11 militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were killed in clashes with the Iraqi army on Tuesday, security forces said .
The miltants were killed in Iraq's eastern Baqubah district of Diyala province bordering Iran. ISIL car bombs found in the same area were also destroyed, Major General of Diyala province Jamil al-Shimary said.
Iraq is suffering militant terror attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, which captured large swathes of the country's predominantly Sunni provinces in early June, including the country’s second-largest city Mosul.
According to the UN, at least 24,015 civilians have been killed or injured in Iraq during the first eight months of 2014.
ISIL violence has forced an estimated 1.2 million Iraqis, including Turkmen, Arabs, Christians and Ezidis, to flee their homes.
