KIEV, Ukraine
Eleven Ukrainian soldiers have been killed over the last 24 hours during military operations in eastern Ukraine, officials said.
Clashes with pro-Russia separatists have also left as many as 51 troops wounded, National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andrei Lysenko said Thursday.
According to the Lugansk city council, three civilians, including one children, have been killed over the same period in the city, where the army is engaged in "anti-terror" operations.
Tension continues to remain high as the pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of Ukraine declared their intention to break away from Kiev in March, which claimed around 500 lives so far.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that European Union's new sanctions over Russia revealed that the union had understood the scope of Russia's crimes.
In a written statement, the ministry said that those who had been financially supporting Russia for its attempts to destabilise Crimea and eastern Ukraine must be added to the sanction list.
