At least 12 people have been killed in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakthunkhwa province in the past day amid ongoing local election violence, according to officials and local media.
Armed assailants killed eight people at a celebratory music program organized by a candidate elected to the local council in the Taank district on Sunday night, eyewitnesses told local channel Express TV.
Officials said they could not define whether it was an attack by militant groups or a result of a tribal feud.
Express TV also reported another five were killed in clashes and firing at celebratory rallies in the Kohat, Noshehra and Mardan districts taking the total death toll for violence related to the local elections to 23 in the last three days.
During polling on Saturday 10 political activists were killed and more than 100 injured across the province in clashes between supporters of different political parties.
