Thirty-eight Yemenis were killed and scores of others were injured on Sunday in violent clashes between Shiite Houthi militants and tribesmen in the northern province of Amran, a tribal source said.
"Clashes erupted on Sunday between Houthis and members of Hashid two kilometers away from Huth," the source said.
He added that 35 Houthis were killed in the clashes and scores of others were injured, opposite to only three fatalities among tribesmen while seven others were injured.
The source said the Houthis had bombed a house that used to belong to late Sheikh Abdullah bin Husayn al-Ahmar, a former parliament speaker and a spiritual leader of Hashid tribe, in Huth.
He added that Hashid chieftains held two meetings in the capital Sanaa and the northern province of Amran to discuss means of recapturing areas seized earlier by Houthis.
Anadolu Agency could not get immediate comments from Houthis, but the group usually declines to comment on its human casualties in clashes with tribesmen.
Recent weeks have seen violent clashes between Houthi militants and northern Yemen's tribesmen, with the latter accusing the Shiite militants of seeking to establish control over their territories.
The Houthis continue to fight pitched battles with both tribesmen and Salafists in several parts of the country, which has been gripped by chaos since the ouster of long-serving president Ali Abdullah Saleh in early 2012 as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings.
