A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck off northern New Zealand on Friday, according to the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred in the Kermadec Islands area at 12.23 a.m. local time (1223GMT).
The depth of the tremor was 31.2 km.
The area is mostly uninhabited. No information was included on damage or casualties caused by the earthquake.
