RAMALLAH (AA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday met with visiting Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in Ramallah.
During their 30-minute meeting, the two leaders agreed to bolster bilateral relations, a source at the public relations department in the Nigerian embassy in Tel Aviv told Anadolu Agency.
No formal agreements were signed during the meeting, which was seen largely as a courtesy call by Jonathan who is currently visiting the holy land.
Ramzi al-Taweel, responsible for the Palestinian presidency's foreign media desk, told AA that both sides had agreed to enhance diplomatic relations.
Al-Taweel said that Jonathan would later head to Bethlehem where he planned to visit the Church of the Nativity as part of pilgrimage activities while in the holy land.
Ahead of his meeting with Abbas, Jonathan placed a wreath on the grave of late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Jonathan arrived in Israel on Thursday for a weeklong visit, the first such trip by a Nigerian leader to the self-proclaimed Jewish state.
