A total of 40 civilians were killed in three separate bomb attacks in two provinces of Afghanistan Sunday, officials said.
At least 27 civilians were killed and several others were injured in a suicide car bomb attack near U.S. military base, Chapman in Khost province Sunday evening, local officials said.
The base, located on the outskirts of Khost city, is said to be in use of Afghan and foreign forces in Afghanistan.
Provincial police chief Faizullah Ghairat said that all victims were civilians.
“The number of causalities may increase because some of the wounded are in grave condition,” Ghairat said.
Khost province is on the border with Pakistan.
Interior ministry spokesman, Sediq Sediqqi said that all victims were civilians and included some women and children.
"Ministry of interior condemns yesterday's suicide attack in which 27 civilians killed, calls it heinous act of terrorism against innocent civilians," Sediqqi tweeted.
Separately, at least 10 civilians were killed when thier vehicle hit a roadside bomb on Sunday in Tagab district of Kapisa province, north of the Afghan capital of Kabul on Sunday, police sources said.
In the meantime, another bomb explosion on Sunday in northern Kunduz province has killed three civilians.
Despite recent talks between Afghan government representatives and the Taliban in Islamabad, the fighting in Afghanistan has escalated.
