Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) and the Panhellenic Medical Association (PIS) stated that the smog covering the cities had a significant impact on the health of the people and called on the government to take immediate action.

The rise on petrol prices to increase state's income, steered people to use unhealty heating devices, was told in a statement.
As well as the usage of unhealthy heating devices, illegal wood trade also became an issue of concern.
The government took measures to prevent illegal logging by establishing control points and banning vehicle entry into forests at night time.
