ANKARA
At least eight people have been shot dead in a restaurant in the Czech Republic.
Patrik Kuncar, the mayor of town of Uhersky Brod, said a gunman opened fire on people in the Droujba (Friendship) restaurant in the eastern Czech town of Uhersky Brod on Tuesday before he committed suicide, the AFP news agency reported.
Police sources described the man as being in his 60s and possibly mentally unstable.
Interior Minister Milan Chovanec confirmed the shooting, and said on Twitter: "According to available information, it was not a terrorist attack."
Several people were also wounded in the attack.
About 20 people are believed to have been in the restaurant at the time of the attack, about 300 kilometers (180 miles) from the capital, Prague.
Local media earlier reported nine people had died in the incident.
