At least seven people were killed and 15 others injured on Tuesday when a car bomb went off near the presidential complex in Somali capital Mogadishu, a local official has said.
"The bombing, which targeted a popular restaurant, left seven people dead and 15 wounded," Mogadishu police spokesman Qasim Ahmed Roble told a press conference on Tuesday.
"The attack indicates that terrorism is weakening following a major security operation by Somali authorities," he added.
Earlier in the day, Internal Security Minister Abdirazak Omar condemned the attack, but stressed that the presidential palace was not in danger.
"Our troops secured the site within minutes and all the injured were taken to hospital. We condemn these futile attacks wholeheartedly," Omar said in a statement.
No group has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's bombing, but Somalia's Al-Shabaab militant group usually claims responsibility for such attacks.
