Chinese police have fatally shot a man from the ethnic Uighur minority in northern Shaanxi province’s capital Xian, according to local media.
The Communist Party-run People’s Daily reported that the man was shot while waiting in a queue at a train station while allegedly holding a brick in his hand.
Police fired at him after he reportedly did not listen to their warnings and "displayed aggressive behavior."
He was transported to a hospital where he later died of his injuries, according to the report. No further details were provided.
Under Chinese law, police have authority to open fire in cases where public security is deemed to be in danger.
The Uighur are a mostly Muslim ethnic Turkic group that constitutes around 45 percent of the population of the western Xinjiang autonomous region.
The minority has accused China of carrying out repressive policies that restrain their religious, commercial and cultural activities.
