ANKARA, Turkey
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Monday that the Daesh militant group had beheaded two women in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province last week.
The U.K.-based SOHR said it had documented the beheading of the two women, who, it asserted, had been accused by the militant group of having engaged in “sorcery.”
The SOHR’s, assertions, however, could not be independently verified by Anadolu Agency.
In May, the SOHR said that Daesh had managed to establish a presence in ten out of Syria’s 14 provinces, which amounted to over half of the war-torn country’s territory.
The U.S. Department of State, however, has since challenged the accuracy of these claims.
Over the course of the last year, Daesh has successfuly established control over vast swathes of both Iraq and Syria, despite frequent airstrikes carried out against the militant group by a U.S.-led coalition.
