WASHINGTON

Donald Trump Jr. is set to visit Greenland on Tuesday following signals from his father, President-elect Donald Trump, of an interest in US "ownership and control" of the autonomous Danish territory, according to a report.

“As someone who has traveled to some fascinating places across the globe as an outdoorsman, I’m excited to stop into Greenland for a little bit of fun this week,” Trump Jr. said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

A source familiar with the plans told Fox that Trump Jr.’s visit is in his "personal capacity.”

He is scheduled to arrive in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, midday Tuesday, where he will engage with locals, explore cultural landmarks and shoot video content for podcasting.

The source emphasized that the trip is not political, noting "he will not be meeting with any government officials or political figures." Instead, it is described as a “quick day-long trip.”

The planned visit follows President-elect Trump's statement that "for purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity."

A day after Trump's comments, Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede said that "Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland."

"We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom," he added.

Greenland, a self-governing territory under the Danish monarchy, maintains its own parliament and administration while electing two members to Denmark’s Folketing, or parliament.
