The Egyptian army said Saturday that its forces had killed 725 "terrorists" in the past six months.
Army spokesman Mohamed Samir said in a statement that a total of 2,079 militants had been detained between Oct. 25 and April 30.
According to the statement, some 173 "terrorists" had been killed in February, the highest number of militants killed in the stated period, while January registered the lowest number (44).
Egypt has been dogged by instability since the army unseated elected Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013.
Since then, Egyptian authorities have been cracking down on militancy, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with Israel and the Gaza Strip, amid a rise in militant attacks against army personnel, policemen and security sites.
