BAMAKO, Mali
At least four people, including two soldiers, were killed in an attack on a military base and a hotel frequented by Westerners in Mali, security sources told Anadolu Agency.
The attack took place on Friday morning near the town of Mopti. The sources added that gunshots were heard at around 10:45 a.m. near the military base and the hotel.
An eyewitness later reported that he saw a dead body at the entrance of the hotel, but he did not give details about the identity or nationality of the victim.
According to a local administrative source, the gunmen may have “spent the night in the hotel in order to study the scene and prepare the attack.”
The attack comes three days after 11 Malian soldiers were killed by unidentified gunmen in an attack on a military camp – located in Mali’s Gouma-Rharous commune, some 160 kilometers east of Timbuktu.
