Around 20 Roma families were removed from a camp in the northeastern suburbs of Paris on Tuesday, according to a French rights group.
The Human Rights League said police evicted the families from Saint-Seine Denis to clear the area for urban renewal.
In a statement, the league said the eviction would cause serious physical and psychological damage to the families and impinge on their children’s education.
According to the group, 4,000 Roma have been evicted from camps across France since January.
France’s policy towards its estimated 15,000 to 20,000 Roma population has faced criticism from the UN.
