KARACHI, Pakistan
Twelve were killed and ten others were injured after a passenger van caught fire due to a gas cylinder blast near the southern port city of Karachi Sunday night, police and local media said.
The accident took place at Nooriabad, an industrial town located some 50 kilometers northeast of Karachi, the country's commercial capital.
Sanaullah Abbasi, a deputy inspector general of police said the van, carrying 18 passengers, was badly damaged due to the blast and fire.
Low-quality gas cylinders fitted inside vehicles have caused scores of blasts and hundreds of casualties in recent years in Pakistan. Over 60 passengers were burned alive in a similar incident in Karachi in December 2014.
