GAZA CITY
Deputy Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh on Sunday lauded support offered by Turkey to the Palestinian people.
"Turkey has always offered political and economic support to the Palestinians," Haniyeh said.
"We will never forget the Turkish blood that was spilt on the Mavi Marmara aid flotilla in a bid to break the siege on the Gaza Strip," he added in a statement, following a meeting in Gaza with Mehmet Gormez, the president of the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs.
He added that during his visit to the Gaza Strip, Gormez delivered the keenness of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the unity of the people of Palestine.
Gormez arrived in Gaza in the morning on Sunday, accompanying a delegation of 22 officials. They are expected to spend two days in the Palestinian territory.
