WASHINGTON
An intruder was arrested late Sunday evening after scaling the White House fence, the U.S. Secret Service said on Monday.
In a statement, the service, which safeguards the president, said the infiltrator was “immediately arrested” while climbing the southern fence around the presidential residence in Washington D.C.
The individual, whose name and gender were not disclosed, remains in custody awaiting charges.
In September, an intruder allegedly carrying a knife made his way into the White House's East Room before being detained and a month later a man jumped the fence but was immediately arrested.
The National Parks Service last week announced plans to install “anti-climb” measures on the perimeter fence as a temporary fix until a new fence can be installed.
