At least 48 people, including 43 suspected Daesh militants and two police officers were killed, and 34 others were injured in multiple attacks in western Anbar province’s Ramadi city Wednesday, officials said.
At least 43 suspected Daesh militants, including 17 suicide bombers, were killed during Iraqi military operations in Ramadi city, Sabah Karhout, president of Anbar provincial council, said.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial Council, Falih al-Isawi, said Daesh began its attack on Ramadi with a mortar attack. “Later they started attacking security checkpoints as well state buildings,” al-Isawi said. The U.S.-led international coalition also launched two airstrikes against the militant, of which one hit the target, he added.
Also, at least five people, including two police officers, were killed and 34 others were injured in attacks allegedly carried out by Daesh in Ramadi, Anbar’s Provincial Health Department Press Director Anas Qais al-Ani said. Al-Ani added that the bodies and injured were taken to the Ramadi State Hospital.
Clashes between Iraqi forces and Daesh have been ongoing since June 2014 when the armed group seized Mosul and other territories in Iraq.
Daesh is an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorist group.
