BAGHDAD
Eight people were killed and 21 others were wounded late Sunday in the Iraqi capital.
A police captain told Anadolu Agency that two people were killed and six others were injured when an improvised explosive device detonated in eastern Baghdad.
Another IED went off near a local market in al-Yousifiya area in southern Baghdad. Two people were killed and seven others were injured in the incident.
One person died and eight others were wounded in a third IED attack in al-Tobji area in northwestern Baghdad.
Meanwhile, a civilian was killed by unknown assailants in al-Obaidi area in eastern Baghdad and two bodies were found by police forces in al-Taji and al-Yousifiya areas in northern Baghdad.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had lifted Baghdad’s eight-year curfew on Feb. 7, citing “improved security conditions.”
Iraq was plunged into a security vacuum in June 2014 when Daesh stormed the northern province of Mosul and declared what it called a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
