ALEPPO, Syria
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants killed at least 27 people Friday before withdrawing from a district in Syria's largest city Aleppo, claims a local activist identified as Ebu Firas.
Ebu Firas told Anadolu Agency that ISIL militants executed at least 27 people at a school immediately before losing control of northern Hraytan district.
A regime warcraft pounded the area with barrel bombs after ISIL's withdrawal.
The London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said in a recent report that ISIL was responsible for killing nearly 200 civilians and arresting over 2,000 in an eight-month period up to January.
The group, mainly based in Raqqah and Aleppo, is said to have tensions with many factions among the Syria regime’s opposition, while mostly avoiding confrontation with forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.
Meanwhile, Local Coordination Committees (LCC) in Syria reported that regime helicopters conducted an air strike on Aleppo's opposition-controlled districts of Mesekin Hananu, Sheikh Najjar and Haydariye.
