RAMALLAH, Palestine
Israeli forces released Aziz Duwaik, speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, from prison on Tuesday after he spent 12 months in a Ramallah jail.
An Israeli military court had sentenced Duwaik to 12 months in prison and a 6,000 Israeli Shekel ($1,700) fine, on charges including delivering a speech in a public commemoration event.
Israeli forces detained Duwaik and a number of Hamas members, including lawmakers, in the West Bank in June 2014 during the disappearance of three teenage Jewish settlers in southern Palestine.
Duwaik has been detained many times and had previously spent around four years in Israeli prisons.
