BRUSSELS
Liberals in European Parliament (EP) made a call for international intervention to stop civil massacre in Syria.
In a written statement on Monday, the leader of the Liberal and Democrat group in EP and former prime minister of Belgium, Guy Verhofstadt said that Syrian regime had killed mercilessly at least 110 civilians, including 50 children in Houla, a province of Homs on May 25, 2012.
"How many massacres do we need to see to understand uselessness of the Annan Plan? Time is up for peace talks, now we need to go into action," said Verhofstadt.
Verhofstadt also defined the massacre in Houla as "The third Srebrenica massacre of Syria" following other massacres in the cities of Homs and Hama.
"There is an option to halt this craziness in the country and it is an international intervention following the declaration of a safe zone in the north and the south of the country. If the United Nations' Security Council do not take this responsibility, it is NATO's duty then," stated Verhofstadt.
