BAGHDAD
The number of casualties rose to 49 in an attack staged on Monday on an Iraqi military convoy carrying Syrian troops, who defected to Syria on March 2 after their unit got under the control of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
The attack was staged around Akeshat region some 70 kilometers to the west of Rutba city.
Among the casualties were 7 Iraqi and 42 Syrian troops.
A total of 66 Syrian troops were on their way back to Syria.
Iraqi security forces have not yet made any comments on today's attack.
