Philippines police are investigating the killing of a 58-year-old U.S. national and his Filipina wife whose decomposing bodies were found in a deep water well at their farm in the central province of Negros Occidental, almost two weeks after they went missing.
Senior Inspector Lawrence Gerald Bathan, the police chief of Murcia town, told Panay News on Tuesday they are currently investigating the case to identify suspects and a motive.
The body of Kevin Fleischauer, 58, was first retrieved around 7 a.m. Monday (11.00 GMT Sunday) while the body of Lolly Mangilaya-Fleischauer, 60, was recovered around 4 p.m.
Both were already in a state of decomposition.
Bathan said the corpses were discovered after members of the Open Door Baptist Church reported the Fleischauer as not attending church services for almost two weeks.
On visiting the Fleischauer's house Sunday, church members discovered that the front door of the house was broken.
They immediately sought assistance from the officials and police.
On Arriving at the farm at 5.40 p.m. Sunday, officials found no sign of the couple but a stench alerted them to the well.
Police believed that the couple were beaten before their were dumped inside.
Bathan said that the couple's household help had also disappeared.
