ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines

At least seven people have died and two more are missing in the northern provinces of Luzon in the wake of Typhoon "Ineng," according to the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The state-run news agency, which cited National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the number of people killed by adverse effects of the typhoon has now climbed to seven.

The fatalities are from Mountain Province, Benguet and Ilocos Norte while the injured are also from Mountain Province, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

"The number of injured was placed at five with another two missing. While the two missing are from La Union and Ilocos Norte," the agency reported.

A majority of those who died perished in landslides while one person died after being hit by a falling mango tree.

Meanwhile, the Philippine daily Inquirer reported that 867 passengers were affected Saturday when boast were forced to suspended journeys in rough seas.

The typhoon sped up Saturday morning as it moved north-northeast away from Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

It is expected to reach 295 km northeast of Batanes - the northernmost province of the Philippines - by Sunday morning and will be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday.

At least five people died in northern Luzon on Friday - mostly in landslides triggered by heavy rains - despite Ineng not making landfall.
