Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that the decision to resume US-Russia-Ukraine trilateral talks on the Moscow-Kyiv conflict does not imply any restrictions on military operations.
Speaking at a news briefing in Moscow, Peskov said the territorial issue could be a topic of discussion during efforts to reach a peaceful settlement, along with other matters.
"The decision to resume trilateral negotiations does not imply any restrictions on military actions. You know that our armed forces continue the special military operation and continue to deliver massive and consistent strikes on Ukraine’s military complex, on military and quasi-military targets," he said.
"There will be a very serious conversation consisting of a huge number of details. We would not like to discuss these details publicly, because we believe it would harm the potential future peace process," Peskov added.
Asked about humanitarian efforts, the spokesman said they could set a precedent, citing the "very positive, coordinating involvement" of US negotiators and first lady Melania Trump.
"We highly appreciate these efforts," he said, adding that Moscow hopes Ukraine will fulfill all the agreements reached with the direct participation of negotiators.
Kremlin's views on Serbian, Brazilian elections
Commenting on Serbia’s snap parliamentary election, the spokesman said Moscow highly values the contribution of Aleksandar Vucic to bilateral relations and expects him to remain on the political stage.
"Even in opposition, he will still contribute to the development of bilateral relations," he said.
He expressed hope that the new political force coming to power would act constructively and understand that cooperation with Russia is in Serbia’s interest.
"We, for our part, intend to continue to promote the development of relations with Belgrade in every way, but, as you know, it takes two to tango," he added.
Serbia held an early election to the National Assembly on Sunday. With 96.47% of ballots counted, the Republican Electoral Commission said the “United Serbia” list of Vucic trailed the opposition “Student List,” with 39.27% against 52.57% of the vote.
Peskov also welcomed the victory of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brazil’s presidential election.
“We welcome the victory of Mr. Lula,” he said. Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier sent congratulations to Lula.
Russia to host 2030 weightlifting championships
Peskov also welcomed the decision of the International Weightlifting Federation to hold the 2030 championships in the Russian capital, calling it an important step toward depoliticizing sport.
"Russia must return to the world sports family with full rights, because this family cannot live fully without Russia’s participation," he said.
On the Olympics, he said it was too early to talk about it.
"At the moment, not a very large number of countries are interested in hosting the Olympics. All the pros and cons must be weighed, of course. For now, this issue is not on the agenda," he said.
