Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense issued three brief warnings about potential danger in two governorates on Thursday, later announcing that the danger had passed in both areas without clarifying its nature.
The latest warning was issued in Yanbu governorate through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, according to a statement by the Civil Defense on the US social media platform X.
The Civil Defense later announced that the danger had passed in Yanbu, urging residents to continue following its instructions and avoid gathering and filming.
In separate statements, the Civil Defense said it had issued two alerts through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies in Sharurah governorate in the southwestern Najran region to warn residents of a potential danger.
Minutes later, it announced that the danger had passed in the governorate, urging residents to continue following its instructions and to avoid gathering and taking photographs.
The Saudi Civil Defense did not specify the nature of the danger that prompted the warnings or its causes.
The warnings came amid continued escalation by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia, including recent missile and drone attacks targeting different parts of the kingdom.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s government against the Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014.
