BEIRUT
Syrian militants have reportedly abducted several drivers at a border crossing between Syria and Jordan, a Lebanese security source said Friday.
"A number of truck drivers have been abducted by Syrian militants at Nasib border crossing," the source, requesting anonymity, told The Anadolu Agency.
"Ten Lebanese drivers were among the abductees," he said.
According to the source, the captors have demanded a $500,000 ransom for every Lebanese driver.
On Wednesday, Syrian opposition forces seized control of the Nasib crossing after fierce clashes with regime forces.
Syria has been rocked by a deadly civil war since 2011, when President Bashar al-Assad responded to anti-government protests with a violent crackdown.
The four-year conflict has left up to 210,000 people dead, according to UN data.
