GENEVA
One of the seven FIFA officials detained last May in Switzerland has agreed to get extradited to the U.S. to face corruption charges, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) said on Friday.
"One of the seven detained FIFA officials agreed yesterday afternoon to be extradited to the U.S. FOJ was, therefore, able to approve his extradition immediately in a simplified procedure," FOJ said in a statement on Friday.
"The person concerned wished not to be named at the moment," the statement added.
The FIFA officials were arrested on May 27 following a request from the U.S., and detained pending extradition.
The corruption case has sent shockwaves across the world, forcing longtime FIFA head Sepp Blatter to announce his resignation four days after being re-elected in May 29.
