BEIRUT (AA) - Syrian regime has been mute to a demand by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to enter Qusayr town near the Lebanese border, an ICRC official said.
ICRC spokesman Samar al-Qadi stated that they have not received any response from Damascus to their request which he said was filed 10 days ago.
ICRC was ready to bring medical and humanitarian aid to Qusayr, al-Kadi told the Anadolu Agency, adding, "We hope unconditional access for our teams as soon as possible."
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem had earlier vowed that the government would allow ICRC to enter the town "as soon as the operations are finished" during a telephone call with Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon.
Qusayr is a strategic town linking Damascus with coastal areas. It was captured last week by Hezbollah and regime forces and hundreds of wounded people have been reported to be urgent need of medical attention.
