BRUSSELS
The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz described Tunisia's adoption of a new constitution as "a historical day," in a statement he made on Monday.
Schulz praised the political and social powers of Tunisia, as well as the people's determination during the process. He added that Tunisia once again has shown determination towards its equal citizenship, democracy and fundamental freedom rights.
However, Schulz stressed that the government has a lot to overcome, such as reviving the country's economy, and holding future elections.
Late on Sunday, Tunisia's 217-member National Constituent Assembly (NCA) approved the country's new constitution - the first since president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali was ousted three years ago.
