Two Cameroonian soldiers were killed Thursday following a rocket attack in the country’s northernmost region, according Colonel Jacob Kodji, the regional army's leader in northern Cameroon.
Kodji told Anadolu Agency that the explosion also injured 23 other soldiers, but could not reveal the extent of their injuries.
He added that the soldiers were part of the Fast Response Unit, and were on their way to a village in the far north of the country to block an armed Boko Haram attack.
Cameroonian authorities have not released any further details about the incident, but a military source told Anadolu Agency that Boko Haram militants have previously raided the same village and stole cattle and food from it.
Boko Haram has recently intensified its attacks against residents of Cameroon’s northernmost region, aiming in particular for areas that lie on the Cameroon-Nigeria border, leading to hundreds of civilian casualties.
