The UK warship HMS Dragon has docked in the eastern Mediterranean for a short period for maintenance and resupply, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
The ship was deployed from the UK to help protect British air bases in the Greek Cypriot Administration following the outbreak of a war between the US, Israel and Iran.
The ministry said the vessel remains at a “very high level of readiness” and could “sail at short notice if required.”
A spokesperson described the docking as a “routine logistics stop,” allowing the destroyer to take on provisions, optimize its systems, and carry out essential maintenance.
"The UK continues to maintain a robust and layered defensive presence in the eastern Mediterranean, working in co-ordination with allies. This includes Typhoon and F-35 jets, Wildcat and Merlin helicopters, and advanced counter-drone and air defense systems," he added.
Regional escalations have continued since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,400 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure, and disrupting global markets and aviation.
