UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday announced the appointment of Bangladeshi Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam as Force Commander of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
Minhazul Alam succeeds Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri, whose service leading the mission was praised by Guterres for its dedication and impact.
Alam "brings to the position over 30 years of leadership and command experience in the Bangladesh Army," according to a statement.
He most recently served with the Army Training and Doctrine Command and previously led the 10th Infantry Division while overseeing operations in Cox’s Bazar.
Throughout his career, Alam has held a range of command and staff positions across infantry units, with responsibilities spanning counterterrorism, internal security, disaster response, and intelligence-driven operations, per the statement.
