A woman was killed and 23 people were injured in Russian overnight airstrikes that targeted infrastructure in Ukraine’s southern city of Mykolaiv, local authorities said early Tuesday.

“Around 2.30 am (2330GMT), the enemy (Russia) attacked the city (of Mykolaiv), first with S-300 missiles. As a result, a woman died and 16 people were injured,” Governor Vitaliy Kim said on Telegram.

However, the governor later issued another statement, saying the number of injured has increased to 23.

Kim said the attack damaged local infrastructure, including a restaurant and an unspecified number of residential buildings, and that fires have also broken out and efforts are being made to put them out.

He added that a drone attack was also reported a day earlier near the village of Kutsurub, located about 46 kilometers (about 29 miles) southwest of Mykolaiv city, which resulted in no casualties.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force claimed in a statement that Russia attacked the Mykolaiv region using seven guided missiles launched from Crimea, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.

It added that 12 Russian drones were also shot down overnight in seven regions of Ukraine, including Mykolaiv.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the claims or the incident.
