Turkey on Friday issued a travel advisory for Turkish citizens living or visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) ahead of elections set for Sunday.
On its website, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry urged people “to be cautious their personal security before and after the election. They are advised to stay away from protests, demonstration areas, and similar events during their stay in the DRC."
Turkish citizens living in the DRC were advised to consider leaving the country and those planning to visit were urged to postpone until the election process is completed.
The people of the Central African nation are preparing to go to the polls on Sunday. The elections have been delayed several times by longtime President Joseph Kabila, who said voters have not yet been registered.
